Thank you for your interest in learning more about the history of the Dawson Farm. We first want to recognize the full history of this land by acknowledging that this was the traditional and ancestral territory of the Miami, Kickapoo, and Kaskaskia tribes. We honor the indigenous people who stewarded this land before us and we pay our respect to the native elders, both past and present.

Our family placed the marker you’re reading as close to the original homestead as possible since it was the hub for all activities at this farm. As you’ve already read, in the early 1850s Ambrose Dawson purchased a large tract of land in what is now Marion County. He then divided it and gifted each of his children with a farm.
